Moving from Hollywood to Sechelt

I have been visiting the Sunshine Coast since a graduate school in Creative Writing at UBC in the 80s. I try to visit at least once a year and brought my comedy improv act up there about three years ago. That's far too long between visit. I am now trying to figure out how I can make a living on the Sunshine Coast starting this fall at the latest so I will never have to leave your part of the world again. I've also managed apartment communities ranging in size from 35 to 200 units throughout…

About cabin fever, no we don't. We has lots of chores plus we love to read and write. We usually have to go to town at least once a week for shopping, hiking, boating, mail, etc. My problem is I want more time there, no less. Going to LA today for a week of work. Missing all that good weather.

Hi. Wayne has written two science fiction books that we have self published, "Echo of a Distant Planet" and "Inbound to Earth." So far that is all. It is harder to promote fiction on your own. Besides he has so many true stories to tell he hasn't had time to work on another fiction title. Yes, there are a lot of topics you could pick from for sure.

Thanks for the questions Tom.  Our cabin is on Powell Lake so there are no tides.  The waves we get are wind driven lake water.  In our protected bay they only get about one foot, but the wind gusts had really move our floating cabin around on it's anchor cables to the shore.  We can watch DVDs on the computers if we need something like that.  Satellite radio keeps us current on the news and fairly frequent trips to town let us get our TV and Internet fixes. But it is nice up at the cabin to put those time killers away for awhile.  We have rainbow trout in the lake, but they are harder to catch these days, so we don't depend on them for food.  In fact, we catch and release. - Margy

That's a good question. A couple of years, probably. I was pregnant when we first moved here so wasn't up to a whole lot of socializing. After I'd been here a year, though, I got involved in a local book club which was really good for meeting people, and then I started my own business which has also really helped to widen our social sphere. I feel pretty darned local now (though people who have lived here their whole lives might see it differently. ;-)

Tom

That's great to hear. That's how it starts. I was first introduced to the coast as a summer cabin. So each year we would visit as family & spend the summers in Gibsons. I never thought I would or could live here. But now I am have been here 10 years full time. And LOVE it.

Here is some even better news. You don't have to win the lotto. You can get a fabulous place on the coast for a fraction of what it would cost on the main land. Keep coming up and give me a bell if you want to get in some of those homes.

Keep coming up. The weather is getting better and making everything look better to.

Kirsty
