Redrooffs Road

Some of the best memories of my life are visiting Sechelt while a graduate student in Creative Writing at UBC. My girlfriend's father owned a home on Redrooffs Road close to Halfmoon Bay. Do any of you know of someone living on Redrooffs Road as I would love to buy property there someday.See More

Hollywood Reality Show

On Wednesday I starred in a reality show pilot covering tour guides in Hollywood, an irony since I hate reality TV.....for good reason. It's so phony. The four "tourists" on the show were all actors. Some of the lines were rehearsed. Often I had to repeat lines so the audio was perfect. Just like Hollywood, it was sleazy and nothing like the Sunshine Coast. It's been about three years since I last visited Sechelt but it seems like a hundred, especially at this time of the year. I remember…See More

Merry Christmas, Sunshine Coast!

Today the weather in Los Angeles is a page right out of the Sunshine Coast weather diary. It's cool and raining. Now this is closer to Christmas weather. I wonder what it's like up there on the Sunshine Coast now. Much cooler than here I presume. Christmas decorations adorn the stores and downtown streets. You people really get into the season spirit while here in L.A. it's hard to feel Christmas when it's 90 degrees outside. Today is a nice break from the heat. Unfortunately, the drawback is…See More

New Reality Show

A Hollywood tour company wants to hire me to be one of the tour guides in a new reality TV show covering the tour trade here. I would give tours with tourists from all over the world and visit various celebrity homes. It is tempting but I really hate reality shows. Isn't it ironic that after doing standup comedy in Hollywood for 20 years and having more than 400 day jobs I am offerred an opportunity in a genre I detest?…See More

Interesting.  I'll have to look at the atmosphere of the Lighthouse next time I'm there.   It could be that the locals are just reserved and not trying to be unfriendly.    This is a very sleepy little town where the main street is deserted at dusk.    No wonder this is the place of the annual Writers' Festival.   Nothing to do in the winter except curl up with a good book.

About cabin fever, no we don't. We has lots of chores plus we love to read and write. We usually have to go to town at least once a week for shopping, hiking, boating, mail, etc. My problem is I want more time there, no less. Going to LA today for a week of work. Missing all that good weather.

Hi. Wayne has written two science fiction books that we have self published, "Echo of a Distant Planet" and "Inbound to Earth." So far that is all. It is harder to promote fiction on your own. Besides he has so many true stories to tell he hasn't had time to work on another fiction title. Yes, there are a lot of topics you could pick from for sure.

Thanks for the questions Tom.  Our cabin is on Powell Lake so there are no tides.  The waves we get are wind driven lake water.  In our protected bay they only get about one foot, but the wind gusts had really move our floating cabin around on it's anchor cables to the shore.  We can watch DVDs on the computers if we need something like that.  Satellite radio keeps us current on the news and fairly frequent trips to town let us get our TV and Internet fixes. But it is nice up at the cabin to put those time killers away for awhile.  We have rainbow trout in the lake, but they are harder to catch these days, so we don't depend on them for food.  In fact, we catch and release. - Margy

Powell River is another ferry north and makes us less touristy I think.  We love it here, especially living on the lake.  It has a wonderful small town feel.  A lot different than our big city past. - Margy

That's a good question. A couple of years, probably. I was pregnant when we first moved here so wasn't up to a whole lot of socializing. After I'd been here a year, though, I got involved in a local book club which was really good for meeting people, and then I started my own business which has also really helped to widen our social sphere. I feel pretty darned local now (though people who have lived here their whole lives might see it differently. ;-)

Hi Tom! Thanks for friending me. Yeah, I feel pretty darned lucky to be living here on the Coast. We've been here since 2008 and still pinch ourselves regularly. ;-)

So, you're a comedy writer in LA? That sounds like an interesting lifestyle!

We were stuck in LA for a very long time, but getting residency in 2008 changed that.  I do have to go south at least once a year for a consulting job.  That's plenty for me.  Thanks for inviting me to be a friend. - Margy
